Telescope mounts are mechanical components that are used to guide and control the telescope (manually or using the AutoStar computer control panel and navigation). There are two main types of mounts — azimuthal and equatorial. In equatorial mounts, the optical tube moves in two planes — vertical and horizontal. The most common subspecies of these universal mounts are American or fork mounts, patented by MEADE. Such mounts are convenient to use both for ground and space observations, they do not require additional balancing and fine tuning. Simplicity, versatility and high load capacity are their main advantages (for example, on the MEADE 16" LX200 SC telescope). The second type of mounts is equatorial. The optical axis in these mounts is parallel to the axis of rotation of the Earth, which makes it possible to observe space objects without vertical correction, i.e. practically with one handle. Such mounts are popular with advanced observers and astrophotographers, but are not recommended for novice astronomers. The most modern mounts are equipped with computer or automatic control and remote guidance AutoStar, which greatly simplifies the observation process and makes it truly accessible and understandable.
